You Are Gold is a spellbinding, delicate, but complex brew. With a pale golden liquor, the brew is lightly vegetal with subtle notes of butter/nuts with a mesmerising fragrant floral orchid note and a unique sweetness reminiscent of sweet spring fruits + vegetables. A lasting finish in the mouth with a velvety texture. HEAVEN...
This premium semi-ball-rolled organic Oolong is lightly oxidised, sitting closer to a green tea than a black and hails from the famous Anxi district in the Fujian province of China. It can be re-steeped many times. With each infusion, the tightly balled leaves unfurl to reveal large, thick shiny leaves and an ever-changing flavour profile.
Light Oolongs such as this tend to pair well with light/sweet seafoods (mild fish, scallops, lobster), lightly salted snacks/crackers, salads and tofu.
There are two legends around the origins of this very special tea. We are drawn to the legend of Wei. In fact, we fell in love with it and the intoxicating amazingness of this gorgeous specialty tea.
Wei legend
Deep in the heart of Fujian’s Anxi County, there was a rundown temple which held an iron statue of Guanyin, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Every day on the walk to his tea fields, a poor farmer named Mr. Wei would pass by and reflect on the temple’s worsening condition. ”Something has to be done”, thought Mr. Wei.
Being poor, he did not have the means to repair the temple. Instead, the farmer brought a broom and some incense from his home. He swept the temple clean and lit the incense as an offering to Guanyin. “It’s the least I can do,” he thought to himself. Twice a month for many months, he repeated the same tasks.
One night, Guanyin appeared to him in a dream. Guanyin told him of a cave behind the temple where treasure awaited. He was to take the treasure and share it with others. In the cave, the farmer found a single tea shoot. He planted it in his field and nurtured it into a large bush, from which the finest tea was produced. He gave cuttings of this rare plant to all his neighbours and began selling the tea under the name Tieguanyin, Iron Bodhisattva of Compassion.
Over time, Mr. Wei and all his neighbours prospered; the rundown temple of Guanyin was repaired and became a beacon for the region. Mr. Wei took joy in the daily trip to his tea fields, never failing to stop in appreciation of the beautiful temple.

I bought online and sent as a special thank you gift. It arrived quickly and beautifully packaged. Thank you!
I must admit that I am not the biggest expert on Oolong teas as before I came across this one I had bought mainly black teas. This has to be one of my top five all time favourites. I just feel so refreshed and pleased after drinking this tea! That it also has gold leaf only makes you feel even more special! Even if you have not tried many Oolong teas, give this one a go. You will be pleased that you did!
